Why You Need a Swim Cover-Up

There are so many reasons to upgrade your towel for a true swimsuit cover-up. First, it offers sun protection. While we all love the summer sun, a lightweight layer can help shield your skin during peak UV hours. Second, it provides comfort and modesty when moving through public spaces like the hotel lobby, boardwalk, or restroom. And let's not forget that a cute cover-cup completes the overall look. The right color, fabric, and silhouette play a huge role in expressing your personal style.

5 Types of Cover-Ups to Try

1. Sarong Cover-Ups & Skirts

Sarongs are typically a piece of fabric designed to wrap around your hips, creating a side-tie skirt. They range from a long maxi skirt to an itty-bitty mini skirt, and the side tie creates a chic leg slit. Sarongs can come in a variety of lightweight materials like breezy sheer fabrics and silky chiffon, plus colors and patterns for every style.

2. Cover-Up Dresses

Dresses are a chic, elevated option, perfect for going straight to dinner and drinks from the beach. Known for their versatility, a cover-up mini dress or maxi dress can be worn over your swimsuit or as a standalone outfit, depending on the style. An open weave knit dress will feel light and durable, while a more traditional dress will give you an easy layer to slip on once you towel off.

3. Cover-Up Shirts

For a put-together look that’s still easy to throw on at the beach, consider a button-up shirt. The oversized, breezy fit will keep you cool, while the refined collared silhouette has a classic design appeal. Knit sweaters and oversized t-shirts are also popular to cover up in the sun.

4. Cover-Up Shorts

Invest in a pair of relaxed pull-on shorts. A linen option will dry quickly, plus features like an elastic waistband and pockets make them comfortable and practical.

5. Sexy Swimsuit Cover-Ups

For those who want to add a little extra flair to their beachwear, there are plenty of sexy swimsuit cover-up options to choose from. Look for sheer fabrics, cut-out details, and high slits to show off your swimsuit and your curves.

Choose the Right Fabric

• Linen: These natural fibers are the gold standard for keeping cool. They absorb moisture with a loose fit that keeps it off your skin, perfect for high heat and humidity. The trade-off is that linen tends to wrinkle, but the lived-in, textured look adds to the charm.
• Cotton: Another natural fiber, cotton has a classic look and feel. Cotton is absorbent which means it pulls moisture away from skin but tends to dry slowly.
• Synthetic Blends and Mesh: If you want something that resists wrinkles and dries in a flash, look for synthetic blends. These fabrics are often used for our sheer and sexy swimsuit cover-up styles. They drape beautifully and feel incredibly lightweight. Bonus points: they take up less space in your suitcase.
• Crochet and Knits: While slightly heavier, crochet knits offer texture and structure. They don't wrinkle easily, so go ahead and stuff it in your beach tote. However, keep in mind they take longer to dry than other materials, so they are best worn when you are relatively dry.

Accessories Are the Final Touch

Since beachwear is inherently minimal, accessories are a fun way to add personality. Water-friendly shoes like sandals and slides are essential. You'll also need a bag for your towel, sunscreen, and any entertainment.
