We went behind the lens to get to know Carin Backoff, the talented (and super fun) photographer who captured PINK’s fall campaign.

NYC! 

What’s your style signature?

My smoky eye makeup that I have worn forever. 

What’s your favorite beauty hack?

I love coconut oil for dry skin. 

Who and/or what is your artistic inspiration?

All the things! People, museums, films, music, books, food, travel, 99 cent stores etc., etc., etc… 

What’s your favorite spot in the world?

I had the most magical trip—a safari in Tanzania with my mom– so I would have to say there. 

What are you currently reading?

A daily meditations book called “The Language of Letting Go,” which helps me focus on self-care. 

What’s your secret vice?

Dr. Snack Milk chocolate almonds, and sadly it’s not a secret. 

Who is your style icon?

Kate Moss. Always and forever. 

What is your personal dream?

I moved from LA to NYC 17 years ago with the dream of becoming a photographer, and now it’s a reality. I feel so blessed to do what I love for a living. I’m so beyond grateful!  

What’s your motto?

Run towards things that scare you. 

Jess is the Senior Copy Manager at PINK and has previously written for fashion retailers like Saks and Bloomingdale's. A graduate of New York University with a degree in Journalism, she began her career in magazines (remember those???). She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two cats and can usually be found exploring the city on the weekends or rehashing the latest Real Housewives episode.
